She adds her earrings. Blends her makeup. Breathes in the scent of her perfume. It is a night she has been looking forward to for weeks. A room filled with possibility. Women she admires. Conversations she has prayed for. A moment where she finally lets herself be seen.

She walks in expecting to shine.

Yet something shifts the moment she crosses the threshold. A tiny wobble inside her chest. A subtle tightening in her throat. For reasons she cannot explain, her warmth begins to retreat. Her voice softens. Her certainty flickers. She finds herself drifting toward the edges of the room, hiding behind tall flower arrangements or pretending to answer texts so no one notices she is shrinking. Hours pass.
